East Side Cafe: Austin, TX

East Side Cafe Austin, TX

Writing a review on the East Side Cafe is truly a pleasure! I enjoyed this place so much the first time we went in 2009 that when we took our summer vacation in 2010 to the Texas Hill Country we included Austin in the trip just so I could eat there again.

I honestly can't name just one thing I love about this place - there are just so many.  From the welcoming atmosphere of the charming old house, to the delicious selection of healthy meal choices, to the wonderful gardens in the back of the house - it's an overall exceptional dining experience.

Make sure you order the raspberry vinaigrette on your salad and I highly recommend the mushroom crepes!  In fact - they are the reason I made my family arrange our trip to include a night in Austin!

Oh -  the efforts I will go to for a good meal!  But it is truly worth it!

Trilogy Bistro in San Antonio

I have decided to expand What's Cool in Frisco to other parts of Texas. During our family trip to San Antonio we had a great dining experience at a pizza joint called Trilogy Bistro.

I am a certified Pizza Snob and am always on the look out for a new favorite pizza place.

Trilogy had great pizza, great service, good wine. Very kid friendly and a place we would not only recommend to others but would look forward to visiting again during our next trip to San Antonio.

Josephine's Italian Bistro

Josephine's Italian Bistro has become a favorite restaurant for my husband, Steve and I.  It features Italian Regional cooking for both lunch and dinner. It is nestled right off of Main Street in the growing downtown community of Frisco Square.  The food is consistently delicious and the selection of more than 90 wines is quite impressive.

We especially enjoy their weekly happy hour special of $5.00 wines by the glass.

Josephine's offers excellent service with a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a fine meal with friends, family or for a romantic dinner for just the two of you.

Vito's Pizza

I am constantly on the quest for the best slice of pizza. Having lived in NYC for over 3 years I had some of the best pizza at my disposal 24/7. Sadly, it is one of the things I miss most about NY!

Fortunately, I have found a little pizza joint in Frisco that gives NY pizza a run for its money. Vito's Pizza: large pies, great prices, available by the slice - you get a real NY style slice right off of Legacy drive.

Now I can't say that I have ended my quest...I will always be on the lookout for the next greatest slice but Vito's is definitely worth checking out:

btw...if you know of a great pizza joint...please share...

USA Martial Arts

Driving by USA Martial Arts on our way to another destination, one of my sons said, "I want to take karate classes." Usually I would have kept on driving but for some reason I felt compelled to stop the car and see about classes. I was immediately impressed with our first meeting with the staff at USA Martial Arts. They were informative, respectful, and obviously very skilled in their profession. They encouraged us to attend a free class that evening, which we did.

Usually skeptical about jumping into any new activity, my husband and I signed both of our sons up for classes that evening. We have been continuously impressed with what our boys are learning in martial arts classes. Not only are they learning life skills such as self confidence, focus, and respect they are learning self discipline and self defense.
There is a weekly take home sheet that re-enforces good behavior at home and at school which is then rewarded in class. I think USA Martial Arts is a great place to send your kids. I highly recommended it and add it to the "What's Cool in Frisco" List.

Legacy ER

I chose Legacy ER as my favorite urgent care clinic because they are so much more than that. They also provide routine office visits for the entire family with no appointment necessary. We have used them for everything from strep throat and ear infections for the kids to sinus infections and flu shots for the parents.

The office hours are great: 9am-9pm daily - not just nights and weekends - which is great for us because our kids seem to get sick on Sunday night when no one else is open! Every time we have visited we have had a short to no waiting period at all.

They are in network with many insurance carriers which is a huge plus and it is so much more convenient than going to the hospital ER. So if you are in need of urgent medical care or just a routine visit - they are your one stop shop. Here is their website for more information:

Salon R&R

Salon R&R is a great hidden secret in Frisco.

Full service hair salon, reasonable prices, great service, great staff. A very cool, comfy atmosphere - very relaxing and down to earth. You can book your own appointment on line - love that!

My kind of place!
